Her previous art experiences were as many other children; finger paints, the obligatory hand in the clay, and crayons. You know, the usual kids stuff. If there was any talent for art, it was to lie dormant for much of her adult life. In 1973 Allyson sculpted her first piece as a get-well offering for her significant other. Manipulating some modeling clay that was laying around, there soon appeared a caricature of a bunny rabbit holding flowers. This proved to be so popular; other critters were soon popping out all over as gifts for friends. Time, and the pressures of work and career sadly saw a decrease in this activity. The talent languished for many, many years. In 1987 Allyson decided it was time for a change. Disenchanted with her current profession, and the caliber of mundane collectibles that were being offered for sale, Allyson decided to create her own. The love of Disney’s Fantasia, and the rich history of the Disney Studios was the inspiration for her first sculptures utilizing animated characters. Taking these creations to the buyers at Disney, she was accepted…. with minor revisions of course! Allyson was soon creating numerous items that were offered as limited edition collectibles through various Disney properties. Character mirror frames, maquettes, ceramic art tiles, paper sculptures…there were no limits to the wealth of inspirations for Allyson’s work. With the advent of the Warner Bros. Studio Stores, Allyson’s work soon expanded to the wonderful world of classic Warner characters. Her talents were turning out collectibles of Bugs, Taz, Tweety, and friends for both the collectibles division of the Warner Bros. retail stores and the Warner Theme Design Division in charge of the ever-expanding retail outlets decor. Many of the fixtures and displays so familiar to the Warner patrons were created and installed worldwide by Allyson. Her most notable work, and the one that is still her favorite, was the 10 character bais relief frieze panels for Warner’s flagship Store in NYC. Each panel measured 10’ long by 5’ high a depicted the wealth of Warner Bros. animation thru the years. She likes to call it her Mt. Rushmore of projects. New Yorkers called the location at 5th and 51st as the 40 Carat Corner, being that the store was near Harry Winston, Bergdorf Goodman, and Tiffany’s. Bug’s favorite food fit the bill for the most famous of these “carrots”. Allyson’s works have gone on to include many other studios and characters, as well as special commissions for numerous corporations. Her most recent was a 6 foot bronze Lear Jet for the Lear foundation in Reno NV. Being a pilot, it was a joy to work with Moya Lear, wife of the fabled Lear jet inventor. She has also worked with numerous animation legends that set the stage for children, both young and old to enjoy. Carl Barks, Bill Justice, Willie Ito, Marc Davis and of course Disney’s venerable Frank and Ollie to name but a few. She even had occasion to produce a bronze for the famous animation director Chuck Jones that featured that irascible Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner, forever hungry and forever the almost genius. All were a joy and to this day remain some of her most treasured moments. Skilled in many art disciplines, Allyson has the ability to not only work in the small and the detailed, but the gigantic as well. Several of her bronze figures have been constructed over 40 feet tall and can be found gracing the entrances to the Warner Brother Studios Employee Stores. Bronze, Steel, Titanium, Tile, what have you, anything can be created. From precise engineering specifications to the abstract, Allyson has worked with the raw and made the sublime. Her skills and talents have no boundaries. What’s in the future for Allyson? Allyson will find something to inspire. Only time will tell what that special something is to be!
